Tree lightings, the Nutcracker, galas and New Year's Eve: 39 Dallas Christmas events for 2026, and what to wear to each one.
Holiday invitations in Dallas-Fort Worth come fast once November hits: a tree lighting with the kids on Friday, a Nutcracker matinee on Sunday, the office party, then a gala or a New Year's Eve night out. Each one asks for a different outfit, and most invitations never say what to wear.
This guide lists 39 real holiday events across Dallas, Fort Worth, Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Grapevine and Southlake from mid-November 2026 to New Year's Day, with the likely dress code for each in plain English, a weather and layering note, and an outfit idea. It is written for North Texas women juggling a full calendar who want to get dressed once and enjoy the night.
Event details checked in October 2026. Dates, times and tickets can change, so confirm on each official site before you go.

Dress codes
How to read a holiday dress code
Start with three clues: where the event is (outdoors or indoors), when it starts (daytime or after 6 p.m.), and what the ticket costs. A free outdoor tree lighting is casual. An evening concert or ballet sits at dressy casual. A ticketed party at a hotel or a dinner is usually cocktail. A charity ball that says "black tie" means floor-length. If you are unsure, dress one step above casual and bring a layer you can take off.
-

Weather
Dallas December weather: plan for layers
National Weather Service normals for DFW Airport put the average November high at 66.6 degrees and the low at 46.2. In December, the average high is 57.9 and the low is 38.3. Those are averages: a December afternoon can reach the 70s, and a cold front can drop the evening near freezing in the same week.
Source: National Weather Service Fort Worth, DFW normals (1991 to 2020) (opens in a new tab).
The practical takeaway: an afternoon event can feel like fall, and the same evening can feel like winter. For anything outdoors after sunset, plan your coat first and build the outfit under it. Indoor venues run warm once they fill up, so pick a top layer you can slip off without losing the look.

December is gala season in Dallas, and most charity balls are invitation or table events. If your invitation says black tie, plan a floor-length dress.

Decoder
Dress code decoder for North Texas holiday invites
Casual
Clothes you would wear to brunch or a weekend errand, pulled together. For outdoor holiday events in North Texas that means jeans or leggings, a warm sweater, boots or sneakers you can stand in, and a coat. Polished western boots are right at home at casual events here.
Festive
Festive is casual or dressy casual with one holiday detail. A red or emerald sweater, a sequin or velvet top, plaid, or sparkly earrings all count. You do not need to wear all of them at once. One shine is enough.
Dressy casual
One level above jeans and a tee. A sweater dress with tall boots, a satin midi skirt with a knit, or tailored pants with a silky blouse and a blazer. This is the safe choice for evening concerts, ballet, theater and most restaurant dinners in DFW.
Cocktail
A knee-length, midi or dressy short dress, or a dressy two-piece set. Holiday cocktail is the time for sequins, satin, velvet and metallics. In Texas, many cocktail parties move between an indoor room and a heated patio, so bring a wrap or a tailored coat that works with the dress.
Black tie optional
A floor-length dress is welcome but not required. A very dressy cocktail dress, an elegant jumpsuit, or a long skirt with a dressy top all work. When in doubt, go long for a gala and knee-length or midi for a dinner.
Black tie
Floor-length gowns are the norm, especially at Dallas charity balls. Choose rich fabrics like velvet, satin or sequins, add a wrap or coat for the valet line, and save boots for another night unless the invitation says otherwise.
From our founder
Holiday dressing tips from Bezza founder Shweta Sobat Bedi
Bezza is an online women's boutique based in Frisco. Our founder, Shweta, is a mom who knows how fast a North Texas December fills up. Here is how she approaches it.
Start with the coat
"Dallas can be 70 degrees at lunch and in the 40s by the time the tree lights come on. For anything outdoors, I pick the coat first and then choose what goes under it. If the outfit only works with the coat off, it is not the right outfit for a light show."
Shweta Sobat Bedi, founder of Bezza
One sparkle is plenty
"When an invitation says festive, I read it as permission for one sparkly piece. A sequin top with dark jeans or tailored pants takes me from a school concert to a holiday dinner, and I still feel like myself."
Shweta Sobat Bedi, founder of Bezza
Dress for the kids' plans too
"So many of our December nights are about the kids: the parade, the train, the lights. I wear a soft sweater I love, jeans and boots I can walk in for two hours. Nobody remembers your shoes at a light show, but everyone remembers being cold."
Shweta Sobat Bedi, founder of Bezza
Make black tie comfortable
"Formal does not have to mean uncomfortable. A long dress in velvet or satin, a wrap for the walk from the car, and shoes you have worn around the house once before the big night. That is my whole formula."
Shweta Sobat Bedi, founder of Bezza

Methodology
How we built this guide
- Sources
- We checked every event on its official page, the organizer's own announcement, or the city or tourism site. Where an organizer had not posted 2026 details yet, we used its press release or local news coverage and say so in the listing, or we mark the date TBA and give last year's details for context.
- Dress codes
- The dress code for each event is our read, not an official rule, unless the organizer publishes one. We judged it from the venue (outdoors or indoors), the start time, the type of ticket, and any guidance the organizer shares, such as the Grapevine Vintage Railroad's note about pajamas.
- Weather
- Temperatures are National Weather Service 1991 to 2020 normals for DFW Airport.
- Last checked
- October 13, 2026. Dates, times and tickets can change, so confirm on the official site before you go.
- Spotted a change?
- Email support@shopbezza.com and we will take a look.
